Nordic Skating, Gisslaren & Tämnaren, Dec 3rd 2016

A short test-run on Lake Gisslaren, with some 4cm of ice under 2cm powder, fairly safe but a tad sketchy for soloing. A bit longer run on Lake Tämnaren, with some 7cm ice but also with some snow and rougher ice at times. In all though, great start of the season in the Uppland/Södermanland area!

iSup, Gisslaren, Nov 7th

A lap on the beautiful wilderness lake Gisslaren in Northern Uppland on the Kona Cruiser iSUP.. Late autumn and fairly chilly but with the drysuit still quite enjoyable..

Fantastic XC-skating on clear ice in early January.. Me, Edward and Magnus headed to the lakes Gisslaren and Southern and Northern Vällen in Uppland, Roslagen.. In conditions like this few sports can match.. Happy day!

XC-Ice Skating, Gisslaren, February 22nd

XC-skating with my brother Jon on Lake Gisslaren in Uppland, 22nd of February 2014.. After 3 weeks of warm weather and rain, the ice is in bad condition on most of the lakes in the Stockholm region.. But we had a great morning on sufficiently strong but soft ice, covered either in 1-2 cm of water or soft slush..

XC Ice Skating, Gisslaren and Vällen, January 18th

After a longer period of sub-zero temperatures, which (unfortunately?) was also accompanied by a lot of snow, Jon,  Magnus and myself headed to the lakes of Gisslaren and Vällen in Northern Uppland.. Good fun to skate in the powder, but one has to take care on the ice beneath, frequently checking the conditions and thickness..

Hiking, Gisslaren, Oct 26th-27th

A 24 hour hiking trip with the lady at Lake Gisslaren in Roslagen, a tranquil wilderness area.. Fairly warm for end of October, we had 10-14 C.. Tried out the new wood stove, made from IKEA's kitchen utensil rack "Ordning" with some legs made by bolts added to aid ventilation. Worked fine for BBQ, boiling water, and baking some scones..

XC-Skiing, Gisslaren, Dec 22nd

XC-Skiing at lake Gisslaren in Roslagen with Emil.. Calm and not very cold mid-winter day, with a light snowfall in the beginning and a nice sun a bit later.. Lunch at the northern end of the lake.. Slow pace on wet ice with powder on top, total distance around 10 kilometres..

Snowshoeing, Gisslaren, Dec 9th

Snowshoeing at lake Gisslaren in Roslagen.. Snowshoes are rarely the most efficient mode of transportation except in very steep or dense winter terrain, but it's always a fun way to move about.. Today it was -20 Celsius, more than 3 decimeters of powder snow and partially blue skies when the ice-fog wasn't dominating the sceneries.. I trudged along in a slow pace, partially on the lake where the ice was strong enough, partially up in the forest along a hiking trail.. A moose was moving ahead of me and showed clear signs of his presence in the snow, I saw him/her once at around 200 meters distance.. Had coffee and Christmas ham for lunch, but at this temperature, one wants to keep moving.. Total distance covered was only 8-10 kilometers in about 3 hours, but it was still quite a workout..

Sunday skating on lake Gisslaren with brother Jon.. A few degrees below freeing, almost no wind, and perfect ice conditions.. This lake is a bit smaller than Vällen, but with more wilderness feeling, no houses and much fewer fellow skaters.. Distance was about 17 kilometres..
