Skating, Singöfjärden, Feb 23rd

Skating with Ricky on Singöfjärden in Roslagen on mostly great ice. We took a loop north up towards Brännäset where we met the open water, and then made our way south-west towards the Singö bridges, before heading back towards Uddhamn, Herräng. The trip was around 33 kilometers in casual pace. Spring is just around the corner!

Nordic Skating, Roslagen, Feb 12th

Morning session with Ricky, first proper run in the archipelago for the season.. We headed off from Hargshamn with a calm wind, sunshine and a blue sky.. Most of the ice was quite thick, enforced by the cold temperature the last 2 days..

Nordic Skating, Vällen & Ekoln, Jan 21st

Not as great as last weekend on Båven, but still a very nice morning. Joined by my brother, we started off on Northern Vällen, where the ice was half-decent but still enjoyable. After that, we drove to Ryssvägen and took a lap north on Ekoln with a bit smoother ice. Total distance for the day was 38 kilometres.

Nordic Skating, Ekoln, Dec 17, 2016

A lot of driving in search of ice this day, Erken was still open, Närdingen had some half-decent ice with partially melted and re-frozen snow, Hammarskog had some very nice new clear ice but on a limited area, and from Ryssviken north towards Oxen we could stretch out a bit.

Nordic Skating, Gisslaren & Tämnaren, Dec 3rd 2016

A short test-run on Lake Gisslaren, with some 4cm of ice under 2cm powder, fairly safe but a tad sketchy for soloing. A bit longer run on Lake Tämnaren, with some 7cm ice but also with some snow and rougher ice at times. In all though, great start of the season in the Uppland/Södermanland area!

Nordic Skating: Gälnan-Lagnö-Husarö - 23rd of Jan

Early start of the Saturday morning, picking up Emil, Ricky & Mikael at 07 and onwards via ferry to Ljusterö for the Lagnö destination.. Temperature up closer to freezing point, still barely any new snow for a long while, so great conditions for some ice skating in the archipelago.. We did a figure 8 lap of 40 kilometres in a mellow pace, enjoying the sceneries. A great day in good company!

XC-Skating, Lake Mälaren, Jan 10th

Cold weather for some week now which has frozen many larger and deeper lakes, but this also brought a lot of snow.. We headed to Varpsund in the northern part of Lake Mälaren for some powder-skating in loop north towards Gorran and Ekoln.. Gradually thinner ice and at Lugnet/Månskär we had to turn around, rounding the island Biskops-Arnö on the way back..

XC-Skating, Storsjön, Jan 1st

Great start of the new year and an awesome way to clear the head after celebrations.. Headed to Andersön on Storsjön with my brother Trond for some more ice skating.. This big lake is only partially frozen but on the eastern side of Andersön, conditions were superb.. Trudging against the wind for some time gave big rewards on the return loop, great feeling to cruise at 25-30 km/h with little effort..

XC-Skating, Locknesjön, Dec 31st

Last day of 2015 and before champagne I went for a ice skating trip with the lady on Locknesjön.. This lake is pretty special thanks to being created by a meteorit and having a lime stone bottom with very clear, greenish water.. Smooth surface and when you look at the rocks, logs and sand 5-10 meters beneath you, you sometimes slightly loose your balance when your eye impression don't match the surface.. A bit windy from the south but rewarding on the way back..

XC-Skating, Näkten & Locknesjön, Dec 26th

A perfect morning of cross-country ice skating with my brothers Jon & Trond, heading out before sunrise to Lake Näkten.. After some days of warm weather, the cold finally made it back and the ice firmed up for great conditions.. Happily back after a perfect run we added a short loop on Locknesjön, where open water set the limits..

XC-Skating, Lake Tämnaren, Uppland, Dec 19th

9 Celcius in Uppsala for the last day or two, but 50 kilometres north lake Tämnaren delivered a magical solo-session with blue skies and silky-smooth ice.. I took the whole lap along the shoreline, with ice thickness around 35-50mm and just a few section which required some extra care..

XC-Skating, Ånnsjön, Jämtland, Nov 15th

Day 2 of the "Hunt for ice" adventure in Jämtland.. After internet scouting and some fresh reports on forums, I headed to Ånnsjön with Rolf and my brother Trond.. Certainly the thinnest ice I've been skating over larger distances, pretty exciting and lots of fun! Some scratches and bruises, but well worth it!

Mtb round Kungsholmen, Mar-2006, Sweden

In Mid-March after a long and cold winter, I headed out on the lake ice and bike around most of Kungsholmen in Stockholm. Had to leave the ice a few times for short sections on land but it was still a pretty cool day..
