We headed out with a rented trimaran in the central and northern Stockholm archipelago with friends July 7th-11th to enjoy the scenery. Less wind than we hoped for but beautiful scenery and good fun. North past Blidö towards Arholma and south via Söderarm and down to Möja. With the tiny draft of this boat it's possible to anchor in places not available for a regular keel boat.

Sailing Around Åland, July-August 2018
Sailing singlehanded from Herräng a lap around Åland in varied conditions.. First afternoon I headed up to Brännäset, and early in the morning I made my way across Ålands Hav, passing Hellmansundet.. I continued clock-wise on the northern side of the group of islands, mostly motoring.. The second day the wind gradually started to pick up, in the late afternoon reaching gale force gusts at times.. I stayed in Käringsund for 2 nights, doing some maintenance work and relaxing and we got some proper thunder showers the last night.. On my way back to the Roslagen archipelago on the Swedish side, I past a grey seal colony and Märket, a rocky island with a lighthouse marking the boarder between the countries..

Sailing, Åland & Söderarm, July 29th-Aug 3rd
Time for the final longer trip I had planned for the holiday, again sailing single-handed. Saturday night I took the quick hop up to Brännäset where I lay over. Early Sunday morning, I turned East towards Eckerö, Åland. After a few hours I saw land again, and via Hellmanssundet I arrived at the beautiful harbor of Käringsund. I stayed there for two nights, doing some work on the boat, cycling with my Brompton and stocking up on fresh food. Tuesday morning I cast off heading south-west, straight against some bumpy waves, and spent a night at Villösan close to Arholma. On Wednesday I explored the gorgeous Söderarm archipelago with winds increasing in the afternoon. Having spent the night in Österhamn, Lidö, I took a loop around Vätö on Thursday before heading north up through the Väddö channel and back to Herräng.

Sailing, Gotska Sandön, July 21st-23rd
For the return leg from Öland I was joined by Tommy who came by bus to Byxelkrok. We headed off in the early morning July 21st and motored our way straight into the wind all the way to Visby, Gotland. Some sight-seeing & shopping in this beautiful medieval city before calling it a fairly early night. On the 22nd, we cast off towards Gotska Sandön. The whole sea was completely becalmed, so again we motored our way all across to the island in the middle of the Baltic Sea. Plenty of algae but that's pretty common for the season and this type of weather. Gotska Sandön did not disappoint, a true gem with endless beaches and untouched forests. We did a lengthy hike and saw some 22 Grey Seals at the colony on the northern side of the island. On the 23rd, we continued onwards to Nynäshamn, gradually the wind picked up so we could sail the last 3/4 of the way. Great sailing adventure!

Sailing, Herräng to Öland, July 8th-15h
First part of this years summer cruise with my Adagio 27. We headed off from Herräng on July 8th and made our way south via Väddö Channel. Late in the afternoon, engine started to overheat, so had to make a stop at Kålö to try to fix it. Impeller had broken, but could not locate the missing wing in the hoses, so sailed to Ljusterö for assistance at the warf. All done Tuesday morning, and we continued south via Nåttaröfladen, Draget channel, Ringsön, Älö and accross Kalmarsund to Grankullavik.

Sailing, Roslagen, June 6th
Day-sailing with my new Adagio 27 from home harbour to Brännäset. Initially in the morning very light winds, on the way back in the late afternoon a fresh breeze with some gusts. As I'm still getting to know her, I settled with using the Genua only. Happy with the performance, up to 5 knots close-hauled without main sail is pretty good. After some calibration of the tiller pilot that also worked to satisfaction.

Transport Sailing, Ekoln->Herräng, May 5th-7th
My Bellona 23 is sold, and I bought the next boat, an Adagio 27 in excellent condition.. It's a motorsailer-sailboat hybrid with a doghouse for nice coverage also i the sometimes harsh climate in Sweden.. On Friday evening me & the lady took delivery at Skarholmen, Uppsala, and started the long transport sail back to Herräng via 5 lifting bridges and 1 lock, Hammarbyslussen.. Everything went quite well including a fairly rough passage over a bay in gale force winds, except some circus-maneuvers in my harbour-twice the weight and long-keel takes some new skills for tight manouvers..

Nordic Skating, Roslagen, Feb 12th
Morning session with Ricky, first proper run in the archipelago for the season.. We headed off from Hargshamn with a calm wind, sunshine and a blue sky.. Most of the ice was quite thick, enforced by the cold temperature the last 2 days..

Sailing to Måssten, August 20th-21st
After the nightwatch shift on the boat club, me and the lady headed off on Saturday morning to Måssten, a nice island east of Singö.. It used to be a military base back in the days of the cold war era, with plenty of remains still well visible.. The rocky island offers diverse nature and many stunning views..

Return cruise from Northern Öland to Herräng, Singöfjärden.. Covered a fair distance first 2 days, then slowed down as I passed Oxelösund.. In Nynäshamn I picked up Tommy for 2 days before continuing solo again from Stavsnäs.. Fantastic sailing through beautiful scenery with great summer weather..

Sailing, Roslagen, July 2nd-3rd
Sailing first weekend of July, leaving Herräng at around 11, heading north-west to Fälön where we stopped for a few hours with a nice lunch on the BBQ with marinated ribs, and a siesta.. We woke up to stronger winds bouncing the boat, so we continued north-west to Askö where we found a sheltered inlet in company of a few other boats.. Some red wine, more meat for dinner and going for a litle excursion with the tiny inflatable dinghy.. Tacking south on Sunday via Brännäset, and finishing the weekend by ripping the genoa, so went to the sailmaker in a hurry Monday to get it repaired before the summer vacation..

Sailing, Roslagen, June 4th-6th
An extended weekend due to public holiday, we headed out Saturday morning for 3 days of sailing.. With a fresh breeze touching gale from North we first headed down through Väddö channel, and anchored in Österhamn, Lidön for the first night.. On Sunday, we took a sheltered course east over to Gisslingsö where we arrived at noon in the inlet south of Betsebergen.. A nice walk through the woods to stretch the legs, and then some hotdogs on the BBQ.. More lazying about and a second meat BBQ for dinner.. Monday morning, the northerly winds faded away and changed to calm and then a southernly breeze, perfect timing as we were heading back north through the Väddö channel again.. Great sailing season so far, with summer just around the corner!

Sailing, Stora Risten, May 21st-22nd
Pre-summer sailing with the lady, Saturday 21st-22nd. Anchoring for the night at a little island next to Stora Risten.. Shifting winds, mostly from south, partially cloudy on Saturday but in the evening it cleared up and the archipelago was magically beautiful.. Some exploration with the little dinghy on Sunday morning, before heading back south via Korsskären and over Singöfjärden..
