Skating, Singöfjärden, Feb 23rd

Skating with Ricky on Singöfjärden in Roslagen on mostly great ice. We took a loop north up towards Brännäset where we met the open water, and then made our way south-west towards the Singö bridges, before heading back towards Uddhamn, Herräng. The trip was around 33 kilometers in casual pace. Spring is just around the corner!

Nordic Skating, Nykvarn, Jan 14th

Me and Magnus skating Sunday morning on three lakes south of Stockholm - Långsjön was a nice start, Norra Yngern a bit too thin ice that day, Måsnaren solid and very scenic..

Skating, Närdingen, Dec 23rd

Me and Ricky headed to Erken on Saturday morning where I though we'd find the full lake nicely frozen, but that turned out not to be the case.. A quick review of maps and we went to Närdingen close by which had really nice conditions, despite the light rain and a few degrees above freezing point.. About 1 hour and some 15 kilometers of skating later we wrapped it up, to get back ot final christmas preparations in Stockholm..

Skating, Dalkarlskärret, Dec 22nd

Skating+Headlamps+Marsh lake in the woods = Win! I ended worked downtown Stockholm, wisked home to get my car and gear, and drove up towards Uppsala to meet up with 6 other skates who were up for a great way to make a little lake into an adventure.. Around -7 degrees, a clear sky filled with stars, a beautiful night..

Nordic Skating, Tämnaren, Dec 17th-2017

Unusually late premier for the season due to work, travels and wonky weather.. Anyways, went up on a hunch to lake Tämnaren on Sunday and the old ice covered by snow had partially melted and re-frozen so it offered pretty decent conditions.. Being solo, I stayed close to the shore-line and avoided the more tricky parts of the lake..

Nordic Skating, Båven, Jan 28th

Another 50 kilometer run on the Båven lake in Södermanland.. Myself, Jon & Ricky headed off at around 08.15 and throughout the morning the light fog and frosty trees created a mystical atmosphere.. The ice was mostly great but in many of the straits we hade to make our way around ice rifts..

Nordic Skating, Vällen & Ekoln, Jan 21st

Not as great as last weekend on Båven, but still a very nice morning. Joined by my brother, we started off on Northern Vällen, where the ice was half-decent but still enjoyable. After that, we drove to Ryssvägen and took a lap north on Ekoln with a bit smoother ice. Total distance for the day was 38 kilometres.

Nordic Skating, Lake Båven, Jan 15th

Amazing day of Nordic Skating on Lake Båven.. Me and my brother headed off from Sparreholm just before sunrise and covered 50 kilometers with fantastic ice conditions.. About as good as it gets!

Nordic Skating, Ekoln, Dec 17, 2016

A lot of driving in search of ice this day, Erken was still open, Närdingen had some half-decent ice with partially melted and re-frozen snow, Hammarskog had some very nice new clear ice but on a limited area, and from Ryssviken north towards Oxen we could stretch out a bit.

Nordic Skating, Nynäsviken-Vällingen-Långsjön, Dec 3rd 2016

Great Sunday on ice.. Started off with Nynäsviken, inner archipelago premier for the season, then we drove north-west to Vällingen, where the ice was a tad too thin for comfort.. We wrapped up the day on Långsjön, where the surface sang and cracked in a cheerful way..

Nordic Skating, Gisslaren & Tämnaren, Dec 3rd 2016

A short test-run on Lake Gisslaren, with some 4cm of ice under 2cm powder, fairly safe but a tad sketchy for soloing. A bit longer run on Lake Tämnaren, with some 7cm ice but also with some snow and rougher ice at times. In all though, great start of the season in the Uppland/Södermanland area!

Nordic Skating, Blanktjärn, Oct 29th

Premier for the season 2016/2017! Drove to Jämtland Friday night , and unfortunately weather took a bad turn with rain, snow, and wind. But after a few hours of driving and scouting Saturday morning we ended up hiking to Blanktjärn. The ice wasn't great and the lake is small, but still a nice day out and great to be on ice skates again!

Nordic Skating: Gälnan-Lagnö-Husarö - 23rd of Jan

Early start of the Saturday morning, picking up Emil, Ricky & Mikael at 07 and onwards via ferry to Ljusterö for the Lagnö destination.. Temperature up closer to freezing point, still barely any new snow for a long while, so great conditions for some ice skating in the archipelago.. We did a figure 8 lap of 40 kilometres in a mellow pace, enjoying the sceneries. A great day in good company!

XC-Skating, Storsjön, Jan 1st

Great start of the new year and an awesome way to clear the head after celebrations.. Headed to Andersön on Storsjön with my brother Trond for some more ice skating.. This big lake is only partially frozen but on the eastern side of Andersön, conditions were superb.. Trudging against the wind for some time gave big rewards on the return loop, great feeling to cruise at 25-30 km/h with little effort..

XC-Skating, Locknesjön, Dec 31st

Last day of 2015 and before champagne I went for a ice skating trip with the lady on Locknesjön.. This lake is pretty special thanks to being created by a meteorit and having a lime stone bottom with very clear, greenish water.. Smooth surface and when you look at the rocks, logs and sand 5-10 meters beneath you, you sometimes slightly loose your balance when your eye impression don't match the surface.. A bit windy from the south but rewarding on the way back..

XC-Skating, Näkten & Locknesjön, Dec 26th

A perfect morning of cross-country ice skating with my brothers Jon & Trond, heading out before sunrise to Lake Näkten.. After some days of warm weather, the cold finally made it back and the ice firmed up for great conditions.. Happily back after a perfect run we added a short loop on Locknesjön, where open water set the limits..

XC-Skating, Lake Tämnaren, Uppland, Dec 19th

9 Celcius in Uppsala for the last day or two, but 50 kilometres north lake Tämnaren delivered a magical solo-session with blue skies and silky-smooth ice.. I took the whole lap along the shoreline, with ice thickness around 35-50mm and just a few section which required some extra care..

XC-Skating, Stentjärnarna, Nov 14th

Great start of the new XC-skating season! Via a flight from Arlanda to Östersund, an overnight at my brother, 2 hours driving to Flatruet and then 1.5 hours hiking over the mountains, we reached Stentjärnarna for some nice skating on a crisp and cold winter day.. Hoping for a cold winter in Sweden with moderate snowfalls!

XC-Skating, Sörmland, Feb 15th

XC-Skating on 4 lakes in Sörmland with Emil: Yngern, Sjundasjön, Klämmingen and Lake Mälaren at the Gripsholm Castle.. Ice conditions not great but still enjoyable.. Low pace, I'm just recovering from a major cold..
