Freediving in Caves & Tunnels, Gozo, Sept 8th

Freediving in caves and tunnels with Alex on Gozo, Malta. Sites visited: 1. Inland Sea (Dwerja), 2. Blue Hole (Dwerja), 3. Tunnel outside of the Blue Hole.  4. Xlendi cave, 5. Cathedral Cave.  Great conditions, warm water so we skipped wetsuits for the later dives. I tried using the GoPro as a “belly-cam” and it worked out pretty good, and nice to be hands-free while diving.

Freediving, Coral Lagoon, Malta, Jan 10th

We headed to the most northern tip of Malta and swam into Coral Lagoon, nicely sheltered from the wind and the waves. It’s a shallow spot but some nice little caverns and tunnels, and perfect for practicing static rock hugging.

Freediving, Tugboat 2, Malta, Sept 21st

A nice afternoon session with Craig on Tug Boat 2 outside of Exiles in Sliema.. I made a couple of swim-throughs and touching the sand at 22.5 meters depth.. I feel ready to start pushing a bit harder, still plenty of summer left on Malta..

Freediving, Ghar Lapsi tunnel, Aug 24th

A few laps through a tunnel at Ghar Lapsi, Malta. Entry from the lagoon is around 2 meters deep and the exit probably around 8 meters deep. Not sure about the length but perhaps 15 meters? Good idea to scout as much as possible, popular passage with scuba divers, and meeting them in the tunnel could be tight. Also, avoid if the waves are on-shore as the water can them pump back and forth in the tunnel..

Freediving, Comino, June 17th

Rented a small powerboat and headed with some friends from St Julians up to Comino, the little Island between Malta & Gozo, well known for the Blue Lagoon. Did some lazy snorkeling & freediving, pretty tired from the night before, and the sea was too choppy for a visit to the P-31. But nice as always to be out and enjoy the great weather.

Freediving, Ghajn Tuffieha Bay, Malta, June 13th

Headed over to Ghajn Tuffieha Bay after work for a chilled evening session of snorkeling/freediving. The sea is plenty warm for a shorty wetsuit, visibility wasn't great, but nice to explore this area filled with large boulders creating plenty of tunnels and little canyons.

Freediving, Blue Grottos on Malta, June 11th

A short freediving session at Blue Grottos on Malta on Sunday afternoon. Water temp was nice, probably around 22 C, and the water was reasonably clear despite some waves. All the tourist boats running back and forward to the grottos makes this place feel rather sketchy though, I kept as close to the shore/rocks as possible..

Free Diving, Ghar Lapsi Malta, Oct 2nd

Some casual free diving/snorkeling with Samuel at Ghar Lapsi on Malta, Sunday afternoon October 2nd. The tunnel is a nice swim-through, ending at around 5.8 meter depth.. The GoPro housing leaked so probably destroyed, but at least the memory card survived..

Freediving, Blue Grottos, Malta, 26th of Aug

An awsome way to clear the head, freediving before noon for more than 1 hour at Blue Grottos.. Snorkeling our way past numerous fishing rods while avoiding getting run over by the tourist boats to the caves and back, and then later some laid back freediving in the harbour area.. Around 25 C in the water and mostly sunny..

Freediving, Blue Grottos, Malta, Oct-1, 2006

Sunday afternoon freediving session at Blue Grottos on Malta. Felt great today, hitting 35 feet depth twice and swimming around comfortably on 20-25 feet during pretty long runs. Highlights included chasing shoals of feet-long fishes, intercepting a group of scubadivers at 25 feet, looking up on passing motorboats and just marvel at the great visibility and enjoying the refreshing sea.. 1st of October and 28C airtemp, excellent..

Freediving, Fortizza Reef, Malta, August 2006

After work freediving, 5 minute walk from the office.. At the Fortiza cliffs, diving on the Fortiza Reef. After a 2-week flue I struggled to hit 35 feet, but I'll be back in better form soon I hope. The scubadiving computer was beeping like mad as it does not have a free-diving program and thought I was acting like a crazy guy..
