Skiing, Jämtlandsfjällen, 27th-30th of April

Headed up in the northern mountains of Jämtland for some social activies.. Mostly sitting still or playing with snowmobiles, but there were also some time for skiing and taking in the beautiful scenery.. Still plenty of winter up there, despite early spring in the rest of Sweden..

Hiking, Utö, 23rd-24th of March

Headed out with the ferry from Årsta Brygga for a 24-hike on Utö.. Sunny days but in the night the temperature dropped to -6C, it's still winter here in Sweden.. Camped at a place called Drumbudden, on the south-eastern part of the island at the edge of a military shooting range area..

XC-Skating, Dalarö, 17th of March

Better make the most of the late winter with cold temperatures, so I went out again this Sunday, this time with Jon and to Dalarö.. We hit the archipelago jackpot straight away, with superb,  clear, and smooth ice.. At times, pretty challenging conditions where some detours and plenty of stops were needed to check the thickness of the surface,  but again everything went well without any swimming.. Basically, as good as it gets..

XC-Skating, Östra Lagnö, 16th of March

A fair bit of hiking on snow-covered ice and some very nice skating.. Heading east from Östra Lagnö, with Ricky, Emil & Mikael.. Eventually we came to pretty decent and finally very nice ice, and Saturday's turning point was Norrören.. Beautiful, sunny day, well worth the extra effort..

XC-Skating, Ingaröfjärden, March 9th

XC-Skating on Ingaröfjärden with Jon.. We headed out from Älgö early in the morning, and by following the south side of the rock islands, we got mostly clear ice despite the snowfalls some weeks back.. At Ramön we met the open sea and had a lunch stop, and then took a loop to Stendörren before heading back, following the south side of Ingarö.. Total distance this sunny day was 41 kilometers..

XC-Skating, Roslagen Archipelago, Feb 3rd

Epic XC-skating in the Roslagen archipelago with Jon and Emil, as good as it gets.. Beautiful and sunny winter day, light winds.. Starting from "Fiskarbyn" on Vätö, we headed south-east out towards the open sea with varied and at times challenging ice conditions.. Lunch in a nature reserve, accompanied by an eagle.. Total distance covered was 45 kilometres..

XC-Skating, Trosa Archipelago, Sat 26th of Jan

After a period of cold weather and no snow, the outlook was good for some proper skating out in the archipelago.. I headed to the Trosa Archipelago with Emil and we were far from dissapointed.. We started from Kallvik and headed nort-east towards Kockelskar.. Grey skies, fairly windy,  but we  found often great but sometimes challenging ices in beautiful and serene surroundings.. With the open sea near and big waves coming in under the ice, it billowed up and down, fascinating but slightly disconcerting.. Twice I thought I would swim but managed to turn around just in time.. We spotted a couple of Sea-Eagles and 3 mooses walking between islands.. It was a good day, hoping for many more..

XC-Skating, Tämnaren & Erken, January 6th

Finally the planets aligned to allow for some XC-Skating, after an early season wiped out by snow followed by warm temperatures.. With Emil & Jon I drove first to lake Tämnaren, north of Uppsala. It was skateable, but with fairly rough ice covered by a little bit of ice.. We made a loop around the islands, about 8 kilometres, and then headed back to the starting point.. Whisking south-east to lake Erken, conditions proved a lot better with the melted snow re-frozen as pretty good ice.. We took the lap around the lake counter-clock wise with a lunch stop on the western side, distance covered was 27 kilometres.. Overall, great start of the season!

XC-Skiing, Gisslaren, Dec 22nd

XC-Skiing at lake Gisslaren in Roslagen with Emil.. Calm and not very cold mid-winter day, with a light snowfall in the beginning and a nice sun a bit later.. Lunch at the northern end of the lake.. Slow pace on wet ice with powder on top, total distance around 10 kilometres..

Snowshoeing, Gisslaren, Dec 9th

Snowshoeing at lake Gisslaren in Roslagen.. Snowshoes are rarely the most efficient mode of transportation except in very steep or dense winter terrain, but it's always a fun way to move about.. Today it was -20 Celsius, more than 3 decimeters of powder snow and partially blue skies when the ice-fog wasn't dominating the sceneries.. I trudged along in a slow pace, partially on the lake where the ice was strong enough, partially up in the forest along a hiking trail.. A moose was moving ahead of me and showed clear signs of his presence in the snow, I saw him/her once at around 200 meters distance.. Had coffee and Christmas ham for lunch, but at this temperature, one wants to keep moving.. Total distance covered was only 8-10 kilometers in about 3 hours, but it was still quite a workout..

XC-Skiing, Tämnaren, Dec 2nd

First ski-trip of the year, trying out new gear, recovering after a cold.. Headed up to lake Tämnaren in Northern Uppland and spent a few hours making slow progress in the fresh powder.. Around -14 Celcius, mostly sunny and blue skies.. Nice to have some winter finally!

Kayaking, Nacka, Nov 9th

Took Friday off work and headed out to go kayaking with Emil.. Sunny pre-winter day, temperature 0-3 Celcius, with some ice the first leg of our lap around Nacka.. Started in Hammarby next to the skislope, heading east over Jarlasjön, and then did a portage over to the sea-side and continued north through Skurusund.. Lunch break on Fjäderholmarna and then back west and south-west through Hammarby Sjöstad.. Total distance around 20 km..

Sailing, Hensviken-Grisslehamn, Sept 16th

Sunday sailing with Tommy in lovely sunny autumn weather, accompanied by a fresh breeze.. Good to get a first mate that can manage the boat, hoisting sails etc, I had to take care with my right arm/shoulder due to the broken collarbone.. We headed from the marina in Hensviken eastbound to Grisslehamn where we had lunch and then back.. Saw a "StorTriss MK2" for the first time in this area, same color as mine even.. We waived but no racing this time..

Mtb, Jämtlandsfjällen, Aug 24th-26th

Drove with two friends, Erik & Tommy, up north for a planned 2-day ride in Jämtlandsfjällen.. After staying at a hostel in Ljungdalen Friday night we kicked off the mtb ride from Kläppen on Saturday morning.. Up above the treeline and onwards to Helags mountain station for a coffee break.. Wonderful, flowy trails to the hut in Mieskentjakke and then mostly hiking over a mountain pass until we reached Sylarnas mountain station for a late lunch.. We continued towards the goal for the day, Storulvåns mountain station, fantastic and fast trails.. Halfway there I crashed hard in a downhill run, got some bruises, hit my head a bit, but most of the force was taken by my right shoulder so the collarbone snapped.. Hiked 8 kilometres to Storulvån mountain station to get some care by an ambulance crew and after staying the night there we got a ride around the mountains back to our car and headed home..

Sailing, Singö Round Trip, Aug 18th

Saturday sailing with my brother Trond, again from Herräng under the bridge, to Måssten for a lunch stop and then southbound over Singöfjärden back home.. Cloudier than on Friday, but with winds mostly in the 4-7 m/s range which provided great sailing..

Motorsailing, Singö Round Trip, Aug 17th

With a Friday off I headed out in the Singö archipelago with my colleague Dennis from SFO.. Almost becalmed the whole day, but fairly sunny so it was a great day despite utilizing the "iron genua" 95% of the trip around Singö.. We made a lunch stop on "Måssten" and took a quick swim in "Brännäset"..
