Hiking, Pedraforca, Oct 23rd

Hiking & scrambling up and down the beautiful Pedraforca mountain in northern Catalunya with perfect weather in late October.. The elevation gain from parking was around 900 metres, and large portions of the lap is quite steep and exposed.. I was happy to have brought hiking poles to avoid stumbling and to offload the legs a bit..

Hiking & Paddling, Congost De Mont-Rebei, October 2nd

Hiking and paddling through the crazy beautiful Congost De Mont-Rebei Canyon at the boarder between Catalunya and Andalucia. The area / hiking trail was closed for 10 months due to a rock fall and re-opened a few weeks ago. It turned out that a sunny early October was perfect with some 21-24 degrees.

DWS Climbing, Wied iz-Zurrieq, Malta, Sept 11th

Saturday afternoon traverse climbing above the warm water in Wied iz-Zurrieq near the Blue Grotto in Malta. Mostly very easy, with three harder sections that requires a bit more power and precision. If you fall, make sure to push off from the rock as it is very sharp like a cheese grinder. The whole lap usually takes me about 45 minutes.

Freediving in Caves & Tunnels, Gozo, Sept 8th

Freediving in caves and tunnels with Alex on Gozo, Malta. Sites visited: 1. Inland Sea (Dwerja), 2. Blue Hole (Dwerja), 3. Tunnel outside of the Blue Hole.  4. Xlendi cave, 5. Cathedral Cave.  Great conditions, warm water so we skipped wetsuits for the later dives. I tried using the GoPro as a “belly-cam” and it worked out pretty good, and nice to be hands-free while diving.

Freediving, Cirkewwa, Malta, Sept 5th

Back in the Big Blue in Malta with some strong diving buddies. We took turns on the line for free immersion and I had two dives to 25 metres with limited effort which bodes well for more freediving next week..

Multi-Pitch Climbing, Montserrat, Aug 22nd

A full day of multi-pitch sports climbing in Montserrat north-west of Barcelona with the guide Toti and the fellow climber David. In the heat approaching and probably passing 30 celsius, the hiking, scrambling, abseiling and climbing was quite strenuous. It’s an unusual type of rock here, like pebbles in cement. The routes were not too hard, but I was still very tired on the train back to the city.

Sailing, Stockholm Archipelago, July 7th-11th

We headed out with a rented trimaran in the central and northern Stockholm archipelago with friends July 7th-11th to enjoy the scenery. Less wind than we hoped for but beautiful scenery and good fun. North past Blidö towards Arholma and south via Söderarm and down to Möja. With the tiny draft of this boat it's possible to anchor in places not available for a regular keel boat.

Solo Climbing, Penya Ginesta, May 9th

For the first climbing session in Spain, I went to a crag called Penya Ginesta. After some scouting above and below I found a suitable anchor. Nice easy route with solid holds. I used my favourite setup for top rope solo, GriGri for abseiling and Camp Lift + MicroTraxion for ascent. I now bring a second Camp Lift with a screw gate and 120cm sling as escape system, lighter and more compact than a Jumar with ladder sling. Stunning views from this rock down towards the beach and sea.

A nice little vertical via ferrata down through a crack near the radar station above Mellieha. This  route is mainly used by climbers to enter / exit the crag with many routes along the cliff side.

Top Rope Solo Climbing, Ix-Xaqqa, April 10th

Solo climbing and belaying Kamilla in the Ix-Xaqqa ravine in Malta near Ghar Lapsi. The hardest route of the day was “Motor Psycho”, a 45 meter 6B+ where especially the first part is rather flat and slippery.

Top Rope Solo, Corona Wall, April 2nd

A longer point of view video while I climb top rope solo style on a crag near Ghar Lapsi in southern Malta. A lovely sunny day on April 2nd 2021. This place is a little bit tricky for TRS because it is a long hike around if your rope gets stuck or you don’t manage the climb back up to the abseiling point. I always carry a jumar with ladder just in case, but not a problem so far.

Relaxed sports climbing with Adam on 3 different crags in the beautiful Mosta Valley in Malta, and we exited up to the road above via a nice Via Ferrata. It's nice to be able to start in the sun in the morning and then move over to the shady side as it gets a bit warmer.

Kayaking, Valletta, March 6th

A 3.5 hour kayak paddle around Valletta and the Three Cities on Saturday morning. Choppy waters and some waves in the areas open to the sea and very calm and comfortable in the bays and inlets. Good fun with Craig & Kamilla plus the guides.

Rock Climbing, Limestone Quarry, Feb 13th

TRS, Xaqqa Valley, Jan 24th

Top rope solo session on a fairly windy Sunday morning in Xaqqa near Ghar Lapsi..  I tried a Micro traxion + GriGri on single rope setup, did not like it. Of course it is easier to switch to rappel, but a a lot of extra hassle on the way up with pulling the rope through the GriGri..

Freediving, Coral Lagoon, Malta, Jan 10th

We headed to the most northern tip of Malta and swam into Coral Lagoon, nicely sheltered from the wind and the waves. It’s a shallow spot but some nice little caverns and tunnels, and perfect for practicing static rock hugging.
